Organic Beginnings with Baby Cribs – A Foundation to Organic Planet Pyramids
The Safest Crib is an Eco-Friendly Crib. The materials in non-organic cribs are generally processed using toxic chemicals of varying strengths that slowly but steadily pollute, harm, and endanger our well-being and health, not to mention our environment and our homes. Consider a compressed-wood crib: it is neither strong nor durable, and will take ages to bio-degrade when no longer useful. If you want to consider choosing an organic crib for your little one, you are moving towards a positive future for yourself and your child. You are blazing a path (with a green flame!) that will encourage your friends, and then their friends, to sustain your planet and its resources – a green pyramid that our world dearly needs. The wood in organic baby furnishings comes from managed forests, and organic production and processing use low amounts of energy and no toxic chemicals that harm our fragile environment and ecosystems. An organic crib is an heirloom bed: It is sturdy and re-usable and can be passed from baby to baby. Recyclable and naturally biodegradable, an organic bed will never add more toxins or bulk to any landfill. Let our babies’ dreams be toxin free – and come true! Let’s consider organic beginnings as an investment for our future. So, did I hear some one ask how to do that? Your Baby’s Crib When choosing your little one’s organic crib, look for a well-designed, well-made bed with convenient features. Safety is essential: The crib must be sturdy with closely placed slats and no edges that could catch on Baby’s clothing and cause injury or strangling. Okay, that’s the standard precautions for all baby beds. Now, if looking for genuinely eco-friendly products, carefully read the label; or study the specifications when purchasing online. Buy only from a reputable furniture manufacturer, retailer or online store to ensure that you are buying a quality, functional, organic baby bed. It is going to cost you, so you need to do this. Remember though, that it WILL last; - for generations – yes, it may actually become that much sort after heirloom - a treasured and functional antique for generations to come. If an organic crib isn’t in your budget, it’s best to choose as natural a crib as you can, made from eco-friendly, sustainable materials and finished with high-quality, low-VOC natural or organic paint, stain, varnish, or wax. If you have been gifted with a crib, or are using a second-hand non-organic crib, wash the crib with a “green” cleaner, and then refinish it with an organic finish. If you suspect the paint finish on the crib is a lead paint, find another crib for your little one. Every time you make an environmentally ethical choice , you help the planet and your baby, and you are teaching your little one by example how to walk more lightly on our planet. By choosing organic furniture, you are supporting the organic industry and those companies, who are working to protect our environment. An organic crib is not only part of making your baby’s nursery a safer, greener place, but is part of making our planet a safer, greener place, too.
